Meetup 2020: Come See What Keeps Austin Weird

This September, iQmetrix is taking Meetup to Austin, Texas, and we wanted to give you a sneak peek of what you can expect from the city that has been described as the next Silicon Valley.

Where it all goes down

Located 24 miles from downtown Austin is a country retreat like none other. The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines is 400 acres of land along the Colorado River that is home to many animals, a golf course, a spa, and (most importantly) the 2020 iQmetrix Meetup.

When you arrive at the hotel, you’ll be greeted by our new friend, Booboo! He’s the Hyatt’s hotel greeter. He can’t take your bags for you (he doesn’t have opposable thumbs), and he can only greet you in one language (alpaca), but he’s the friendliest guy, and if you let him, he’ll give you a big ol’ kiss!

Boo Boo is just one of the Hyatt’s many animal friends. After you get settled, be sure to wander the grounds and say hi to Beans, the pig, Porter and Shiner, the texas longhorns, as well as Waylan and Johnny, the resident goats. 

After checking in, you can choose to take in one of our two welcome activities; the pool party happening alongside the lazy river at the Crooked River Water Park or, if floating and beachin’ it isn’t your style, you can hit the links at the award-winning Wolfdancer Golf Club. 18 holes of Texas wilderness will have many different terrains that makes this course a great time for all skill levels.

Over the three days of Meetup, you’ll have the chance to relax while enjoying views of the area’s rolling hills. The Hyatt has a rustic, Southern country feel and the many restaurant options are sure to provide you with that total Texas experience.

What to do in Austin, Texas

If you’re looking for some excitement before or after Meetup, checking out downtown Austin is a MUST. From the live music scene to all of the fantastic museums to the unbelievable food trucks, you are sure to stay busy while visiting.

There’s a reason ​“Keep Austin Weird” is the slogan the city has fully embraced. Everywhere you go, you will be amazed by the street performers, experiential retail stores, artists with their incredible artwork, and the kindness of every person you interact with. The creative community is sure to leave you feeling so inspired and invigorated – as it has for many business owners and tech leaders, as an incubator for innovative technology. 

The city of Austin also hosts SXSW; an event that celebrates the convergence of interactive, film and music industries) which attracts the brightest and most inventive minds.
